5 days of in person theoretical and practical training at our centre in Colchester, or approx 30 hrs online theory training as supported distance learning followed by one day of practical training.
Qualification details
More than 1,600 hours experience -Train the painter Bronze Protective Coating Applicator ID card and e-Certificate valid for 5 years.
Students with less than 1,600 hours experience will receive a Trainee Protective Coating Applicator ID card and e-Certificate valid for 5 years. They will then log their hours via the TTP app and can apply for their card to be exchanged for a full card once they have achieve 1.600 hours on site.
• Train the painter is a CSCS partner card scheme member. All TTP ID cards are official CSCS skills cards featuring the CSCS hologram. ID cards can be verified on the CSCS Smart card checker App.
The course duration is 2-3 days, at the end of the course candidates are assessed via a written assessment and a practical assessment.
The 4 days can be split into separate sessions to allow candidates / employers to plan their time in the classroom around their work commitments.
The course fee includes your registration with the scheme and your wallet I.D card.
This module can be completed as one block with the Protective Coating Applicator to gain your TTP Silver card
Pre-requisite; all candidates must hold the TTP Bronze card if they wish to book this as a stand alone course.
The course duration is 3-4 days. The 4 days can be split into separate sessions to allow candidates / employers to plan their time in the classroom around their work commitments. To complete your theory modules via distance learning before attending a 1 day practical workshop assessment choose the “online” option when asked to select a date.
The course fee includes your registration with the scheme and your wallet I.D card.
This module can be completed as one block with the TTP Protective Coating Applicator if required.

Thin Film Intumescent Coating Course
Intumescent coatings are applied to steel buildings either on or off site to prevent structural failure in the event of fire, it is therefore essential that these coatings are applied by trained and qualified coating applicators. Thorough and correct training in Thin Film Intumescent Coating saves time, money and ultimately lives!
As part of the Globally recognised Train the painter coating applicator training program, this independently accredited training course for Thin Film Intumescent coatings has been developed to meet industry demands.
This training program has been developed with input from industry experts and associated bodies to create the first and only accredited Thin Film Intumescent coatings in the UK. All aspects of surface preparation and application of the products will be taught using both practical and theoretical methods.
